Traditional Polish cuisine

Crumble the yeast and mix with the sugar, add a few tablespoons of warm milk, mix well, and let stand in a warm place for 15 minutes. Put the flour in a bowl, add the melted butter, yeast, warm milk, salt, and egg. Mix everything well until the dough is smooth. Let it rise; the dough should double in size. Roll out the risen yeast dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 3 cm. Use a glass to cut out cookies with a diameter of about 6 cm. Let rise for another 15 minutes. Bring water to a boil in a steamer. Place the dumplings on the sieve at 1 cm intervals and steam covered over high heat for 15 minutes. Then remove and baste with melted butter. Serve with stewed meat, roasts, or sour cherry jam.
