yeast plait

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour (white flour)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 20 g yeast
  • little sugar
  • 250 g milk, lukewarm
  • 50 g butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Mix the flour with the salt. Dissolve the yeast in a little of the lukewarm milk and a very small amount of sugar. Dissolve the margarine in the remaining milk. Crack an egg and mix well with a fork. Mix together the dissolved yeast, the butter or margarine melted in the milk, and the egg. Stir the mixture into the flour in small amounts. Mix well again and again, then knead the dough well by hand until it bubbles. Cover and let it stand in a warm place to rise. Then form one large or two small braids from the dough. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to high. Let the braid rest again while it heats up and brush it with part of the egg yolk (or the whole, mixed egg) before placing it in the oven. Bake in the oven at approximately 200°C until the braid is a nice brown color. Keep the oven closed for the first 20 minutes. After baking, let it cool on a wire rack. Since the braid is not sweet, it tastes wonderful with both sweet and salty dishes!
