Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 4 stale rolls (200 g)
  • ⅛ liter milk
  • 750 g sweet cherries or sour cherries
  • 125 g butter, soft
  • 150 g sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod(s), pulp
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 50 g almonds, chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 tbsp cherry brandy
  • 4 egg whites
  • Butter for the mold
  • Breadcrumbs for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes

fruity casserole

Dice the dry rolls and soak them in the milk for 15 minutes. Wash and drain the cherries, remove the stems, and pit them. Cream the butter, sugar, vanilla seeds, and salt until fluffy and add the egg yolks. Stir in the bread cubes, almonds, cinnamon, and kirsch. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold in. Fold in the cherries. Grease a baking dish with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Pour in the mixture. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 45-50 minutes. Vanilla sauce goes best with this.
