Irish Bread – Irish Soda Bread
The perfect irish bread – irish soda bread recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 500 g Wholemeal spelled flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 500 ml Buttermilk
- Preheat the oven to 220 degrees.
- Mix the flour, salt and baking soda together. Shake up the buttermilk and add to the flour. Stir with a fork until everything has mixed into a light dough that is not too moist. Possibly not add all of the buttermilk! Knead briefly with floured hands, shape into a flat, round loaf and cut the surface crosswise 1 cm deep. Place on a floured tray or lined with baking paper or on a baking stone and bake for 15 minutes at 220 degrees. Then switch the temperature down to 190 degrees and bake the bread for another 20-25 minutes.
- Cooking test: If you knock your finger against the bread base and it sounds hollow, it is baked through.
- This bread goes well with Irish stew.
