Only in a few cases does it make a difference whether the fruit is eaten in the morning, at noon, or in the evening. Fruit types with a high proportion of fruit acids can affect digestion in the evening. Accordingly, people who suffer from heartburn should avoid eating apples or citrus fruits later in the day.
In principle, however, all types of fruit are healthy at any time of the day. The “5 a day” recommended for a balanced diet includes not only at least three servings of vegetables but also two servings of fruit or more. Among other things, apples and co. are rich in vitamins, minerals, and so-called secondary plant substances, which are important for our health.
