The nectarine is a stone fruit. The nectarine trees need a lot of sun, can reach a height of up to 6 m, and have white-pink flowers. Nectarines belong to the peach family. You could say they are a mutation of the peach, only with smooth skin. Whether they are peach or nectarine trees, the trees can only be distinguished by the fruit they bear – not by leaves and trunk. There are white-fleshed and yellow-fleshed nectarines. White-fleshed varieties are sweeter, yellow-fleshed varieties are firmer and have a longer shelf life.
