Home remedies for coughs

Peel and slice the onions. Take a preserving jar or a screw-top jar (e.g. from a jam jar) and first add a layer of onions. Then sprinkle sugar over the onions until they are lightly covered. Repeat this process until the jar is full. Once the jar is full, let it stand so that the onions can draw juice. Drink this juice with a teaspoon or in a small shot glass. Keep sipping a little at a time until your cough clears. CAUTION: The juice must not be left in a very warm place, as this will trigger a fermentation process – it will then smell and be undrinkable! It is best to refrigerate it after the first day.
