Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 large onions
  • 1 liter of water
  • ¼ liter vinegar (white wine vinegar)
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 carnations
  • 5 grains of pepper (black)
  • 5 juniper berries
  • 8 pieces of bratwurst

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Sour sausages

Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Bring the water to a boil, add the onions, vinegar, and all the spices, and cook until the onions are translucent. Add the sausages to the broth and let them simmer for 10 minutes (do not boil). Divide the sausages among plates, pour some of the broth over them, and serve with the onion rings. Serve with farmhouse bread.
