Greek orange semolina cake

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 oranges
  • 5 eggs
  • 380 g semolina
  • 250 g sugar
  • 250 ml olive oil or butter
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • some vanilla flavor
  • 500 ml water
  • 250 g sugar
  • some cinnamon powder
  • Carnation(s)

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 50 minutes

soaked in syrup, easy preparation

Wash the oranges thoroughly. Boil the oranges in a pot of hot water for about 20-30 minutes until they are soft and the peel is no longer bitter. Then quarter the oranges and puree them in a blender. Combine the remaining ingredients for the batter in a mixing bowl and fold in the orange puree. Mix everything well again. Spread the batter on a greased baking sheet and bake at 180°C for about 40-45 minutes. In the meantime, bring the water to a boil, mix with the sugar, cinnamon, and cloves, and let cool. After baking, cut the cake into pieces and only then pour the cooled syrup over it. Note: Because Greek cakes are very sweet, I always use only 250g of sugar instead of the specified 300g. Experiment for yourself, depending on how sweet you like it.
