Polish chocolate waffles

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 package of waffles (wafer sheets), dry
  • 125 g sugar
  • 250 g margarine
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours 15 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

I remember this waffle recipe from my grandmother in Poland. It’s quick to make and super delicious.

Put the margarine in a saucepan and melt it on the stove. Once the margarine is liquid, add the sugar. Now reduce the heat slightly so the margarine doesn’t burn. Stir until the sugar has melted. To speed up the process, you can also stir in a tablespoon of milk, but this is usually not necessary. At the end, add 3 tablespoons of cocoa and stir vigorously to prevent lumps from forming. Set the pan aside and let it cool for 10-15 minutes. Spread the cocoa mixture on the first waffle, then place the second waffle on top of the first and spread it on top. Stack waffle on top of waffle until the cocoa mixture is used up. Do not spread the mixture on the top waffle. To ensure that the individual waffles stick together well, place them in the refrigerator and weigh them down with a heavy pot. I used a 5 kg marble mortar and pestle. After at least 2 hours, you can take the waffles out of the refrigerator and cut them into the desired portion size.
