Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 750 g bread(s), stale
  • 3 medium-sized onions, diced
  • 200 g smoked bacon
  • 80 g lard
  • 6 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 2 red chili, sliced
  • 250 ml beef broth
  • 3 cups of sour cream, 200 g each
  • n. B. Pfeffer

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Using leftovers for bread

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Cut the bread into 2 x 2 cm cubes. Finely dice the onion, garlic, bacon, and chilies, then fry them in the lard. Spread the bread cubes on a deep baking tray and place in the oven for 3-4 minutes. Then pour half of the broth over them. Return to the oven for 3-4 minutes. Remove and toss with the bacon and onion mixture. Return to the oven and bake for about 8 minutes. Remove and toss with the remaining broth and sour cream. Serve with a green salad. Tip: Warm bread absorbs the broth better.
