Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 kg apples
  • 240 ml water or apple juice
  • 250 g sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp all-spice
  • ½ tsp clove powder
  • 1 lemon(s), organic, to taste

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

American apple spread, also for baking

Peel, core, and finely chop the apples. Place them in a saucepan with water or apple juice and simmer until the apples are soft. Add sugar, salt, spices, and, if using, the juice and zest of one lemon. Reduce heat to low until very thick. Pour the apple butter into hot, rinsed jars, seal, and simmer for about 10 minutes. It’s great as a spread, for pancakes, ice cream, for spreading on a cake base before topping, or for apple turnovers.
