Toasted ham and cheese sandwich
Halve the ham slices. Melt about 30g of butter in a shallow pan over low to medium heat. When the butter has melted, briefly place a slice of toast in the pan, remove it, and place it buttered-side down on a plate. Place a slice of ham on top, and a slice of cheese on top of the ham. Then briefly place a second slice of toast in the melted butter, remove it, and place it buttered-side up. Now make all the toast in the same way, melting a little butter in the pan every now and then (not too much at once). Now it’s time to cook the toast. Remove the butter from the pan you just used and wipe it clean. Place one sandwich in the pan and cook over medium heat until golden brown, then turn it over and cook the other side. The sandwich generally holds together better if you weigh it down with a glass or porcelain bowl while cooking. The toast can be kept warm in a preheated oven (80-100°C), but it’s also delicious cold. Serve whole or cut diagonally in half. Variation: Omit the ham and prepare as a cheese sandwich (2 slices of cheese per toast).
