American cherry pie

Combine flour, salt, and 1/3 cup of sugar in a bowl and whisk in the milk. Add the cold butter and then crumble the dough with your fingertips. Knead briefly, just until the dough is pliable. Then form the dough into two balls, one larger than the other, wrap both in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. In a large bowl, mix 2/3 cups of sugar with the cornstarch, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, almond oil, and salt. Add the cherries and let the mixture stand for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Roll out two sheets of dough, one slightly larger for the base. Cut the smaller one into strips. Place the base in a pie plate and spoon the cherry mixture on top. Arrange the strips of dough in a lattice pattern and brush with egg, then add the 1/4 cup of sugar on top. Bake the cake for about 20 minutes, then cover to prevent overcooking and bake for another 40 minutes, until golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let cool and enjoy. You can also serve the cake warm with ice cream on the side.
