  • some sugar
  • n. B. water

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 5 minutes

a childhood mess

This childhood mess is both simple and delicious—a wonderful mess that you either love or hate. Drain the peas and carrots and place them in a saucepan. Add a finger’s breadth of water and the cream. Bring the whole thing to a simmer. Mix about 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with a little water and use it to thicken the vegetables (but be careful: it quickly becomes too thick, so you might want to add a little more cream). Stir in salt, pepper, and about 1 tablespoon of sugar, and season to taste. Delicious, for example, as a side dish to roasted potatoes with a side of meat.
