Sweet and spicy BBQ sauce with currant juice

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 150 g onion(s)
  • 1 clove(s) garlic
  • 1 chili pepper(s)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika powder
  • ½ tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp allspice powder
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 1 packet of Bourbon vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 100 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 150 g tomato ketchup
  • 100 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 200 ml blackcurrant juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest period approx. 1 day; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 day 45 minutes

Sweet and Spicy BBQ Sauce, makes approx. 600 ml

Finely dice the onions and sauté in oil until translucent. Chop the garlic and add it. Briefly fry the spices. Add the sugar and vanilla sugar and stir until melted. Add the finely chopped chili and tomato paste and deglaze with vinegar, reducing briefly. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer over medium heat for about 30 minutes. While hot, pour the sauce into serving jars; it will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks. This recipe yields approximately 600 ml. The sauce tastes best when left to stand for at least a day.
