Minced meat sauce with peppermint

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g minced meat half and half
  • 500 g tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp, smothered cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp, heaped peppermint, sifted
  • Pepper as needed
  • Rapeseed oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Peel and chop the onion and fry it in a pan with a little oil. Add the minced meat and fry it until it crumbles. Meanwhile, mix the tomato paste, passata, cinnamon, salt, and peppermint well in a bowl and then sprinkle this over the fried minced meat. Add 1-2 bay leaves to the meat sauce, stir in the vinegar, and let everything simmer gently for about 10 minutes. Add more or less pepper to achieve the desired spiciness. The peppermint and cinnamon give this sauce a very special flavor; it’s worth a try! We like it best with pasta, but rice is a good alternative. Tip: You can make the peppermint using dried peppermint leaves by grinding them finely in a mortar or by hand, or you can use the contents of peppermint tea bags.
