Coffee essence

Spread the love

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 200 g coffee beans or filter coffee
  • 1 liter of water, cold

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 12 hours; Total time approx. 12 hours 10 minutes

Cold brew. Ideal for iced coffee.

Grind the coffee beans in a coffee grinder or use pre-ground coffee. Empty the coffee powder into a wide-mouthed container with sufficient capacity, pour over cold water, and stir vigorously. Cover or seal the container with cling film and let it steep at room temperature for at least 12 hours. Then strain the mixture through a coffee filter and transfer it to a sealable bottle. The resulting coffee essence will keep in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks. Makes about 700 ml of essence. The essence is easy to use: pour it over hot water or hot milk in a ratio of 1:3 or 1:4, depending on the desired intensity, and sweeten as desired. For a refreshing summer variation, try making an iced coffee with cold water, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream.
