Berliner bread – Grandma's recipe

Spread the love

Ingredients for 10 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ¼ liter of milk
  • 350 g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 400 g hazelnuts, whole

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

Combine the dry ingredients, add the oil to the milk, and mix with the dry ingredients to form a smooth batter (it may be a bit sticky). Spread the batter on a greased baking sheet, scatter the hazelnuts on top, and press them into the batter. Bake for about 40 minutes at 160-170 degrees Celsius; it should start to brown slightly! Remove from the baking sheet and immediately cut into the desired size, e.g., cookie size. Tip: If you prefer, only cover about 2/3 of the baking sheet, which will make the batter a bit thicker.
