Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 4 slice(s) cake (yeast plait) stale, about 1.5 cm thick
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 m.-sized egg(s)
  • 5 g sugar or to taste
  • 40 ml Amaretto
  • 80 g amaretti biscuits
  • 30 g clarified butter for frying

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 6 minutes; Total time approx. 21 minutes

Separate the egg. Whisk the egg yolk with the milk, sugar, and amaretto. Lightly beat the egg white with a fork. Place the amaretti in a plastic bag and crumble using a meat tenderizer or a frying pan. Heat the clarified butter in a pan. Dip the plaited bread slices, one at a time, in the milk, egg, and amaretto mixture. Then dip them in the egg white and coat them with the amaretti crumbs. Fry the slices in the hot clarified butter over low to medium heat until golden brown. Serve with vanilla or chocolate sauce; compote also goes well with the accompaniment.
