American cabbage and apple salad

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 450 g white cabbage, cut into fine strips
  • 450 g red cabbage, cut into fine strips
  • 1 large apple, unpeeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tsp mustard, medium hot
  • ½ tsp celery seeds or celery salt
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp parsley, flat

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

cabbage and apple slaw

Combine the white cabbage, red cabbage, and apple in a large bowl. In another bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar, mustard, celery seed or celery salt, salt (a little less if using celery salt), pepper, and sugar. Add to the cabbage and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Season again before serving and sprinkle with chopped parsley.
