Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 4 tbsp soy sauce, dark
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 4 tsp rice wine, Chinese or sherry
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 6 tbsp chicken broth, or water
- 2 tbsp ginger, grated
- 4 tsp garlic, very finely chopped
- 4 tsp cornstarch
- e.g. water, for the cornstarch
- 5 chili peppers, red, finely chopped
- 2 chicken breasts
- 1 tbsp soy sauce, dark
- 1 egg(s), lightly beaten
- pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 700 ml oil, preferably peanut oil
Instructions
Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes
General Tso’s Chicken
For the sauce, combine all ingredients. Heat. Thicken with cornstarch. Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Mix the egg, soy sauce, pepper, and cornstarch and toss the meat in it. Pour the oil into a wok or saucepan, heat it, and add the chicken pieces. Fry until cooked through and crispy. Remove and drain. Serve with the sauce. Serve with rice or noodles.
