American macaroni casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g pasta (macaroni)
  • 250 g bacon (diced)
  • 1 pinch(s) sweet paprika powder
  • Nutmeg, grated
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • 5 eggs
  • 500 ml milk
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 50 g Parmesan
  • 30 g butter (for butter flakes)

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Cook the macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and transfer to a baking dish. Stir in the bacon bits. Whisk the eggs with the milk and seasonings and pour over the casserole. Sprinkle generously with breadcrumbs to coat. Grate Parmesan cheese over the top and finish with butter flakes. Bake at 200°C on the middle rack of a preheated oven for about 60 minutes. Cover with aluminum foil for the first 30 minutes to prevent the casserole from overcooking.
