Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
Mix the sugar, 125 ml warm water, and the yeast in a bowl and let stand for about 10 minutes. Then add all the flour and baking powder to the bowl and knead everything on low speed with the dough hook for 5 minutes, gradually adding more water until the dough is smooth. Now add the oil and continue kneading for 1 minute at medium speed. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, rolling it around so that it is lightly coated with oil. Cover with a kitchen towel and let stand for 2 hours until the dough has doubled in size. Then punch down the dough slightly and divide it into 6 pieces, then shape each piece into balls. Place these 6 balls on a lightly greased and floured baking sheet, flatten slightly, and let rise for 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 185 °C (top/bottom heat). Bake the buns in the oven for 25 minutes, brushing with a little oil if necessary to give the buns a shine. Optionally, the buns can be sprinkled with poppy seeds or sesame seeds. After baking, let them cool on a wire rack before cutting them. Top the buns with hamburger patties or other toppings as desired.
