Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g apples
  • 125 ml apple juice
  • 70 g sugar
  • 2 sachets of flavoring (lemon flavor)
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 3 eggs
  • 175 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 40 g sugar
  • 6 slice(s) white bread, thin
  • 50 g almond(s), sliced
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Quarter and dice the apples. Sauté with apple juice, 30g sugar, 1 sachet of lemon flavoring, and raisins for 10 minutes, then let cool. Combine the eggs, milk, cornstarch, remaining flavoring, cinnamon, and sugar. Cut the bread diagonally in half, soak in the egg wash, and layer each slice with 1 heaped tablespoon of apple compote in a shallow, greased baking dish (26 cm diameter). Pour over the remaining egg wash and sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 200°C for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
