  • 60 g cane sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 1 apple, sour
  • 150 ml lemonade (preferably Mountain Dew)

Mountain Dew Apple Dumpling

Knead the dough ingredients into a ball and form it into a ball. Wrap it in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Then roll it out on a floured surface into a circle (approx. 45-50 cm) and cut it into 8 pie crusts. Peel and core the apple, and cut it into 8 wedges. Place each wedge on a piece of dough and roll the dough into a croissant, then press down the sides to form a parcel. Place the individual parcels seam-down next to each other in a baking dish, leaving only a small space between them (approx. 1 cm). The baking dish should have slightly higher sides, as the dough will expand and prevent overflow. Melt the butter in a small saucepan, then add the sugar, cane sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla sugar. Heat everything thoroughly, but do not let it boil. Let the sugar melt for a few minutes, then pour everything over the apple turnovers. Finally, carefully pour the lemon soda around the edges of the baking dish and around the dough pieces. It will then run a little into the already filled mixture, but it shouldn’t be completely mixed in. Therefore, do not pour it over the dough pieces. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven at 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) on the middle rack and bake the apples in the pastry for about 40 minutes. Serve hot. Vanilla ice cream is the best accompaniment.
