Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1.2 kg potatoes
  • 4 onions
  • 750 g bacon, streaky, cut into thin slices
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • salt and pepper
  • marjoram

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

An everyday dish from Württemberg

Peel and slice the potatoes. Peel and thinly slice the onions. Cut the bacon into small pieces (2 x 2 cm). Layer the potatoes in a covered casserole dish: potatoes, then onions, seasoned with salt and pepper, then bacon, seasoned with marjoram. Repeat the potatoes and so on until all the potatoes are used up, then finish with potatoes. Pour a cup of water over everything. Then spread the sour cream over the casserole. Put the lid on and place the dish in the oven. Bake at 175 degrees Celsius for 2 hours. After 90 minutes, remove the lid so the casserole browns nicely. You can serve it with a salad. Applesauce also tastes good with it. We simply eat it with gherkins, mixed pickles, or beets from a jar.
