  • ½ jar pesto, red
  • Sliced cheese, e.g. Gouda, Emmental, etc.

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

as a side dish when grilling or simply as a snack

Cut the baguette or ciabatta diagonally across the entire surface, being careful not to cut too deeply, or it will break and be difficult to fill. Spread a generous amount of pesto into the cuts with a knife, then fold the cheese slices together and insert them into the cuts as well. Place the baguette on a baking sheet and bake at approximately 180-200 degrees Celsius (350-400 degrees Fahrenheit) until the desired degree of browning is achieved and the cheese has melted nicely. Tip: You can vary this recipe as desired, including using green pesto, filling it with cooked ham, salami, or pickled tomatoes, etc. Your imagination is the limit.
