Bake Buckwheat Bread Yourself: This is How it Works Gluten-Free

Baking bread with buckwheat – the ingredients

Buckwheat has long been used in basic, gluten-free, and vegan diets. In order to be able to bake bread with the pseudo-grain, you need the following utensils and ingredients:

  • A large bowl, a food processor or mixer with a dough hook, and a loaf pan
  • For the dough, you need 750 g buckwheat flour, 2 tsp salt, 4 tsp dry yeast, 620 ml lukewarm water, and 4 tbsp sunflower oil.
  • Additionally, you can add 3 tbsp grains of your choice. For example, linseed, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds are suitable.

How to bake buckwheat bread

Once you have gathered all the ingredients and materials, complete the following steps:

  1. First, mix the dry ingredients of the dough and then gradually add the lukewarm water while stirring slowly. Knead the mass well.
  2. Then add the oil and knead the dough for another five minutes at the lowest level. If you now want to add grains, remember to use a little more water.
  3. Grease your loaf pan with a little margarine or cooking oil.
  4. Preheat your oven with top/bottom heat to a maximum of 50 degrees. Now let your dough rise in the loaf pan for about an hour. If your oven is only suitable for hotter temperatures, it is best to let the dough rise in another warm place.
  5. After rising, remove the loaf pan from the oven. The dough should now have doubled in size.
  6. Increase the temperature in the oven to 400 degrees and put a small bowl of water in it to keep your bread from drying out as it bakes.
  7. Cut the dough lengthwise down the middle 1 centimeter deep and place the mold in the oven.
  8. Turn the temperature down to 180 degrees and bake the bread for 65 to 80 minutes. After baking, let your bread cool on a wire rack.
