Baked gyros in cheese and cream sauce

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1.2 kg pork, seasoned (gyros)
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 2 bell peppers, yellow and red
  • 250 g mushrooms
  • 2 cups of cream
  • 1 cup herb cream cheese
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 150 g cheese, grated (medium-aged Gouda)

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Place the seasoned gyro meat in a covered casserole dish. Peel the onions and slice them into thin wedges. Wash the bell peppers, remove the stems and seeds, and cut the flesh into thin strips. Trim and slice the mushrooms. Spread everything on top of the gyro meat in the casserole dish. Add the cream, ketchup, and herb cream cheese and mix well. Cover the casserole dish and place it in a preheated oven at 200°C for 60 minutes. After 50 minutes, remove the lid, sprinkle with grated cheese, and bake until golden brown. Serve with rice and a fresh salad of cucumber, bell peppers, and carrots.
