Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 8 slices of white bread, from the previous day, sliced 1 cm thick
- 150g mozzarella
- 2 sprigs of oregano, fresh
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- salt and pepper
- 3 eggs
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 egg white
- 2 tbsp flour
- oil
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes
Remove the crusts from the bread slices. Cut the mozzarella into 8 slices and place two slices in the center of each of four slices. Sprinkle with oregano and drizzle with oil, salt, and pepper. Whisk the eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper. Beat each egg white until it is no longer runny. Brush the edges of the bread with the egg white, cover the bread with the other four slices, and press the edges down firmly. Coat the bread in flour, place in a shallow dish, and pour over the egg wash. Let stand until the mixture is soaked, turning once during the middle of the day. Pour oil into a pan and heat. Fry the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes. Serve with a green salad.
