Baked mozzarella tomatoes

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 800 g tomatoes
  • 300g mozzarella
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 m.-sized onion(s)
  • olive oil
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Thyme, fresh (or basil)
  • Oil, for the casserole dish

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Preheat oven to 220°C. Wash and dry the tomatoes, then slice thickly. Cut the mozzarella into thick slices. Layer the mozzarella and tomato slices in a greased ovenproof dish. Peel and dice the onion and garlic clove. Sprinkle salt over the garlic pieces and mash with a fork. Mix the diced onion and garlic with olive oil and a pinch of pepper and sprinkle over the tomato and mozzarella slices. Bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for about 20 minutes. Wash the thyme, pat dry, and sprinkle over the mozzarella tomatoes. Bake for another 5 minutes.
