Banana Tikki

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 m.-sized banana(s), no plantains
  • 3 m.-large Pepper, red
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp coriander leaves
  • some oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

Peel and slice the bananas. Cut the stems off the peppers, wash the rest, and slice them into rings. Heat the oil in a large pot and fry the banana slices until soft and easy to mash. Let the bananas cool. Add the peppers, salt, and coriander to the bananas and mix well. With wet hands, form the mixture into balls about the size of a ping-pong ball and flatten them slightly, similar to meatballs. Cover and let the tikkis marinate in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tikkis on all sides. In India, they are served with coriander chutney or a sweet and sour tomato sauce; some also enjoy them with tea.
