Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 3 cup(s) semolina
  • 1 cup(s) sugar
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 250 g butter
  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 2 cups milk
  • possibly sour cream
  • Almond(s), for topping
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • vanilla sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Egyptian specialty

Mix semolina with sugar and baking powder, knead with butter, and mix with yogurt and milk (and add sour cream if desired). Place the mixture on a greased and floured baking sheet; top with almonds. Melt a little butter and drizzle over the basbusa. Bake in the oven at 180°C until golden brown. After baking, pour over the syrup. Syrup: Briefly boil 2 cups water, 2 cups sugar, and vanilla sugar.
