Grandma’s style
Bring honey, sugar, and spices to a slow boil in a saucepan and remove from the heat. Add the candied orange peel, candied lemon peel, almonds, and grated lemon zest and mix everything together. Add the kirsch, flour, and baking powder and mix everything into a dough. Roll out the still-warm dough into a rectangle about 5 mm thick on two lightly floured baking sheets and let it rest for a few hours (e.g., overnight). Then bake in the center of a preheated oven at 190 degrees Celsius (convection oven) for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the powdered sugar with water for the glaze. After baking, glaze immediately, trim off the hard edges, and then cut the treats into approximately 4 cm x 5 cm pieces using a pizza cutter (or carefully with a knife). The treats keep best in a plastic bag. Don’t let them dry out completely, as otherwise they can become very hard. They taste great all year round and go well with a good glass of red wine!
