Beans, pears and bacon – stew according to grandma's recipe

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 375 g smoked streaky bacon
  • 750 g beans, green
  • 1 sprig(s) savory
  • 500 g potato(s), waxy
  • 500 g pear(s), firm
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • Pepper, white

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Specialty from Northern Germany

The 3 x 15-minute recipe: Place 1/2 cm thick slices of bacon in 0.5 liters of water and cook for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, trim and wash the beans and break them into 4 cm long pieces. Add the beans and savory to the bacon and cook for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, peel and dice the potatoes. Peel, quarter, and core the pears. Add the potatoes and pears to the beans and cook everything together for another 15 minutes. Whisk the flour with a little water, stir in, and bring back to a boil briefly. Season to taste with white pepper and serve hot.
