Bhuna Jeera – ground and roasted cumin seeds

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 4 tbsp cumin seeds

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 minutes; Total time approx. 7 minutes

Toast the cumin seeds in a dry pan over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes, until the aromas develop and the seeds turn dark brown. Stir constantly to prevent them from burning. Remove from heat and let cool for 10-15 minutes. Then grind the toasted cumin in a mortar and pestle. If you need to speed things up, you can use a spice grinder. Transfer to an airtight container or a screw-top jar. Toasted cumin powder is highly aromatic and has an intense flavor. It’s slightly nutty and adds a unique aroma to many Indian recipes.
