How to Scrub Dirt with Baking Soda or Soften Meat: 7 Unique Ways to Use

There is baking soda in every apartment, usually, housewives use it for culinary purposes – as a leavening agent. In fact, this product is greatly underestimated – washing the sink with baking soda is as easy as making pancakes.

What can be made from baking soda and how to use it correctly – we tell in the article.

Baking soda – used in cooking

This product is excellent for softening meat. If you want a piece of pork or beef to become more tender, rub it with baking soda and put it in the refrigerator for several hours. Before cooking it should be thoroughly rinsed and then cook it according to the recipe. In case you do not have time for a long preparation of meat – add a couple of pinches of salt during cooking.

In addition, soda helps in a cooking jam – it eliminates the sour taste of fruits and berries. During cooking, add 1 / 4 teaspoon of baking soda to the pot. Keep in mind that this proportion is calculated for 1 kg of ingredients. This method will allow you to put in less sugar, which will have a significant impact on the budget.

No one is safe from sour milk, even if you store it in the fridge. Buy a carton of milk and boil it by adding 1 tsp of baking soda to a saucepan. You won’t taste the baking soda when the milk has cooled, but it will stay good for a long time.

Another unique property of baking soda – it helps to clean fruits and vegetables from pesticides. It’s no secret that such fresh produce on store shelves is treated with chemicals, and running water can’t always wash them away. After you have bought fruits or vegetables, prepare a soda solution (1 tsp. of soda per 1 liter of water), and put them in a container for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with tap water and safely eat them.

Baking soda disinfection – clean your apartment properly

Naturally, commercial detergents clean any surface well, but they are poorly rinsed with water. Thus, the particles of “chemicals” remain, for example, on the plates and then together with the food get into your body.

To make a natural dish detergent, use this recipe:

  • baking soda – 1,5 tbsp;
  • mustard powder – 1,5 tbsp;
  • hot water – 500 ml;
  • laundry soap – 25 gr;
  • 10 % ammonia solution (ammonia alcohol) – 2 tablespoons;
  • Any essential oil – 3 drops.

Grate laundry soap on a coarse grater and dissolve it in hot water. Wait until the solution cools, add mustard and baking soda. Pour into an airtight container and add ammonia and essential oil. Close with the lid, shake and leave for 4-5 hours. After that time, the gel paste can be used like a normal detergent.

If you need to remove dirt from tiles or plumbing, simply pour the baking soda on a sponge and rub, rinsing with water. In the same way, you can use baking soda to clean the carpet, but then you have to mix it with essential oil (5-10 drops per 200 grams of powder), spread it in a thin layer on the carpet, and leave it for 10-12 hours. After that, you should scrub the carpet with a rough brush and vacuum. This method helps not only to remove dirt but also to get rid of unwanted odors.
