What to Do With Strawberries After the Harvest: The Rules of Feeding

Every gardener knows that careful and timely planting care is a guarantee of a good harvest. However, even with a high level of responsibility of the gardener and fertile soil, crop yields can fall.

What to feed strawberries in the first year

During fruiting, strawberries are not fertilized, it should be done after you have harvested the last crop. The ideal in this case is organic fertilizer, especially liquid manure. Take a bucket of 10 liters, fill it to 3 / 4 with liquid manure, pour water and leave for 3-4 days. The resulting infusion will then need to be diluted in the proportion 1:5, where 1 – is part of the infusion, and 5 – is water. On each strawberry bush, you need to pour 1 liter of such liquid.

What to feed strawberries after fruiting and pruning the leaves

It is necessary to take care of the berries and fertilize them after harvesting because strawberries finish fruiting very early. As a result, the plants overgrow with weeds, becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and pests. That’s why you need to remove the yellow leaves of the plant in time to heal it.

Immediately after the procedure, spray the strawberries with a solution of manganese, and then sprinkle with wood ash, after 2-3 days such actions should be repeated. Instead of this kind of fertilizer, you can use ash – dilute 1 liter of ash in 10 liters of water, insist 2 days, and then pour under the roots of bushes on 0.5 liters of fertilizer.

How to prepare the Remontant strawberries for the second harvest

Remontant strawberries are a type of berry that bears fruit twice a season. In June, hostesses gather the first harvest and immediately begin to prepare for the second, which will be in August. The technology for caring for the plant is the same – first remove the leaves, and then fertilize. Recipes for fertilizers can be different:

  • A mixture of manure with water in a ratio of 1:10 (per 1 sq.m. – about 5 liters of solution);
  • poultry manure diluted in a ratio of 1:20 with water (per 1 sq.m. – 5 liters of solution).

The next feeding will occur in autumn, but for now, you only need to comply with the schedule and frequency of such care for strawberries. This will help to protect the plant from the negative effects of the environment and prepare it for the next season.
