Bourbon BBQ Sauce

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, red
  • 400 ml cola
  • 500 g tomatoes, pureed
  • 400 g applesauce
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp Sriracha sauce
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 200 ml bourbon whiskey, e.g. E.g. Jim Beam

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Finely chop the onions. Fry them in a pan with the oil, then deglaze with cola and 100 ml of whiskey. Reduce the mixture to about 1/4 over medium heat until it thickens and bubbles form. Next, add the passata and applesauce. Season the sauce with the spices and sriracha sauce. Then pour in the remaining whiskey. Purée with an immersion blender until the sauce reaches the desired consistency. The sauce can be poured into mason jars or sealed glass bottles and stored in the refrigerator.
