Bread, onion and cheese casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 180 g bread(s)
  • 150 g onion(s)
  • 120 g cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 ml milk
  • 200 ml broth
  • some oil for steaming
  • some pepper
  • little salt
  • Cheese

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

quick use of leftovers

Cut the bread into small pieces. Mix the broth with the milk, pour over the bread, and let it simmer. In the meantime, peel the onions and dice them. Heat a little oil in a pan and briefly fry/sauté the onion pieces. Set aside and let cool slightly. Preheat the oven to 200°C and lightly grease the baking dish. Beat the eggs, add them to the bread mixture with the cheese, and mix everything well. Add the onion pieces to the bread mixture, season with pepper and a little salt. Pour the mixture into the baking dish, sprinkle with grated cheese if desired, and bake in the oven for approx. 35-45 minutes.
