Brigitte's Nuremberg Bratwurst in puff pastry

Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 1 pack of frozen puff pastry (with 10 puff pastry slices)
  • 10 tsp mustard, medium hot
  • 10 bratwursts (Nuremberg bratwursts)
  • 10 gherkins
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 1 tsp water

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Hearty and delicious, ideal for parties and buffets

Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to the package instructions. Roll them out a little, if necessary, so that there is a 1 cm wide edge at the top and bottom for placing the sausage. Spread the prepared puff pastry sheets with mustard, leaving a 1 cm wide edge all around. Skin the raw sausages and place 1 sausage and a cucumber, halved lengthwise, on each puff pastry sheet. Break the egg and brush the edges of the pastry with the egg white. Fold the pastry over the sausages and press down firmly. Mix the egg yolk with the water and brush the puff pastry with it. Bake on a baking tray lined with baking paper on the middle rack at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 35 minutes until golden brown.
