Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 300 ml buttermilk, lukewarm
  • ½ cube of yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 500 g flour, type 1050
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 2 hours 15 minutes

East Frisian recipe

Combine the lukewarm buttermilk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and mix. Let stand for 15 minutes. Then add the flour, salt, and butter and knead until the dough bubbles. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 40 minutes, until doubled in size. Then knead thoroughly, transfer to a greased 32 cm loaf pan, and let rise for another 20 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven (180°C) on the bottom rack for 35-45 minutes until golden brown. TIP: Place a container of water on the oven rack during baking.
