Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 kg onion(s)
  • 1 tbsp paprika powder, sweet or to taste
  • 3 tbsp olive oil, or other oil for frying
  • 125 ml rum, alternatively whiskey or other sweet liquor
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Peel the onions and slice them into rings or strips, then set aside. Heat a pan and add oil. When the oil is hot, add the onions, stirring occasionally. Fry the onions until translucent. Add the paprika and continue to fry. When the onions begin to brown, mix the sugar with the liquor in a cup until dissolved. Pour the mixture over the onions. When the liquid has evaporated, the onions will begin to caramelize. Once they are nicely browned, season with salt and pepper. Remove the pan from the heat and enjoy. Goes well with spit roasts, steaks, or simply on bread.
