Carthusian dumplings in cinnamon sugar with compote

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 rolls (old star rolls)
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ liter of milk
  • cinnamon sugar
  • Applesauce or compote
  • Fat or lard for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Cut a thin slice off the top and bottom of the rolls, ideally using a bread machine. Whisk the eggs and milk well in a shallow bowl and soak the rolls in the milk until they are well-soaked on both sides. Then fry them gently on both sides in hot fat or lard. Drain and serve with cinnamon sugar and, for example, applesauce or compote.
