Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 500 g minced meat, mixed
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • ½ pack of baking powder
  • 3 small garlic cloves
  • 1 egg(s)
  • salt and pepper
  • Spice mix (Vegeta)

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Peel the onion, chop it finely, and mix it with the minced meat. Peel the garlic and add it either finely or by pressing it through a press. Mix in the baking powder (which, by the way, helps loosen the dough and prevents it from drying out on the grill), pepper, and Vegeta (be careful: Vegeta is very salty, so wait to add more salt, if necessary). Mix in the egg. Season the mixture to taste and perhaps add more spices if needed. Then form finger-sized, but slightly thicker sausages. Place them on a hot grill and grill. Note: This was one of many recipes from former Serbo-Croatia. My friend from Croatia makes it very similar, only she uses a splash of mineral water instead of the baking powder (which achieves the same effect). She also seasons it with hot paprika and omits the egg. We tried the first version, however, and my husband said he remembered it that way from his childhood (he’s from Slovenia).
