The chestnuts are cut crosswise. It’s worth making the cuts long enough so they reach the edge: this allows the shell to open particularly beautifully. The chestnuts are placed in an ovenproof dish. Water is poured on top, but the water is immediately poured out again. This creates enough moisture for steam to form without the chestnuts sitting in a foot bath. The dish is covered with a lid. The chestnuts are then cooked in the microwave on high for about 1.5 minutes. Yes, only that briefly! Since every microwave is slightly different, the exact time must be tested: if the chestnuts are still firm, choose a longer time; if they dry out, the time was too long or the setting was too high. As the steam evaporates, the shell opens further. After peeling, the chestnuts can be used further according to the recipe.
