Chili Con Carne Suitable for Children

The perfect chili con carne suitable for children recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

For the spice mix:

  • 1 kg Mixed minced meat
  • 1 Peppers yellow or green
  • 2 kl. Cans Whole tomatoes
  • 500 ml Vegetable broth
  • 3 tbsp Tomato paste concentrated three times
  • 2 Toes Garlic
  • 1 Can Corn
  • 5 Bacon slices
  • 2 tbsp Oil for frying
  • 3 tbsp Sweet paprika
  • 2 tbsp Cumin, cumin
  • 2 tbsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp Black pepper from the mill
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 0,5 tbsp Pimento
  • 0,5 tbsp Clove powder
  • 0,5 tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • 0,5 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp White sugar

And when adults eat too:

  • 1 tbsp White milled pepper
  • 3 gutted Jalapeño
  1. Except for the last three ingredients, this chili is built for my 2 year old daughter. Of course, if no children are eating, all the ingredients for the spice mixture are processed at the same time.
  2. Chop the onions and garlic and fry them in a large saucepan with the oil until translucent. Add the minced meat, fry it until crumbly and let it take color. Roasted aromas will form on the bottom of the pot. Don’t worry, they’ll come off by themselves later and give off a good aroma. Add the diced paprika and the bacon cut into small strips to the minced meat. Stir in tomato paste and briefly toast with the spice mixture and garlic. Deglaze with the tomatoes. Pour in about half of the broth and let it boil over half the heat with the lid open. Then stir in the rest of the broth and cook to the desired consistency. Add the drained corn and leave to stand for about 5 minutes with the lid closed and the flame switched off. For my daughter, I now put about 1/5 in another pot or a closable bowl, set it aside so that the chili can steep a little and cool down and add a tablespoon of white pepper, half a teaspoon of chili powder and the to the large pot halved and pitted jalapenos. Then simmer for another 10 minutes with the lid closed at half speed. If you don’t like bacon, increase the amount of salt to one tablespoon. My wife and daughter eat rice with it, I prefer baguettes.
  3. It pays to prepare: I always have the spice mixture ready in the screw-top jar, this saves time and lasts for half an eternity if we spontaneously feel like chili, have a visitor, or if we have to go quickly. Add jalapenos and you’re done! I buy the spices at the Asian shop around the corner, there are larger quantities of good quality and a more reasonable price than in the supermarket.
