Is Cola Zero Suitable for Diabetics?

As a type 2 diabetic, can I drink Coca-Cola ZERO SUGAR without any problems?

Artificial sweeteners have long been a trend and are now part of many processed foods. They were used to combat obesity and diabetes mellitus.

While they may reduce calorie intake, they may not have beneficial effects in controlling diabetes per se, as they can themselves alter insulin sensitivity.

For example, results from the Northern Manhattan Study (2018) suggest that switching to artificially sweetened diet drinks may not be the solution, as regular consumption of diet drinks such as diet soda may also be an  independent risk factor for diabetes.

And a current long-term study by the World Health Organization with 451,743 people from ten European countries came to the following conclusion:

The risk of death among people who consumed two glasses or more of soft drinks per day (regardless of whether they were sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners) was 26 percent higher than those who drank less than one glass per month.

Calorie-free soft drinks contain few calories, but sweeteners and flavorings. If these drinks are drunk regularly, the taste buds get used to the sweetness, which increases the general preference for sweets. Water is therefore the better long-term thirst quencher for patients with diabetes.
