Cold brew coffee is a popular trend that you can easily make at home. You don’t need many ingredients for this – just coffee, water, a coffee filter and a few hours of your time. This article tells you how to prepare it.
Cold brew coffee – how you prepare the coffee variant
The term “cold brew” refers to the way the coffee is prepared. Unlike conventional cappuccinos and the like, it is made with cold water. For the preparation you need ground coffee, preferably with a coarse grind. Also, allow a few hours, as cold brew coffee takes about 12 hours to brew.
- Get a larger vessel, such as a glass carafe, and add 100 grams of ground coffee.
- Then add a liter of cold water to the coffee. Stir the mixture well.
- Now put the coffee in the fridge.
- Let it steep for about 12 hours to get a good cold brew.
- After the waiting time, filter the coffee with a hand filter so that it is ready to be served.
- Finally , put a few ice cubes in a glass and fill it up with your home-brewed, cold coffee. You can drink it neat or with a sip of cow, oat or soy milk, depending on your preference.
Benefits of cold brew coffee
In addition to the fact that cold brew coffee can be made without a lot of energy and the coffee variety is therefore more sustainable, there are other points that speak in favor of this special type of preparation:
- Cold-brewed coffee has the advantage that it is particularly mild and gentle on the stomach.
- Due to the gentle extraction of aroma and caffeine, cold brew coffee has just 15 percent of the acidity of conventional coffee.
- This makes the drink more digestible and easy on the stomach. This is particularly beneficial for people who suffer from acid reflux and heartburn, for example.
- At the same time, the cold-brewed coffee tastes sweeter, since fewer bitter substances are produced than when boiling with heat.
- Another plus point is that you can store cold brew coffee in the fridge for about a week, so it has a long shelf life.
